Maybe worth watching it a couple more times - layer one, the 50's asylum is also within the imagination. At the end of the film, it turns out that the story hasn't been about Baby Doll at all - it's all been about Sweet Pea. When Baby Doll first enters the "theatre" there a two conversations happening simultaneously - one between Father and Blue, and one between the Doctor and Sweet Pea. We assume the significant one is the former, but it is the words of the doctor to Sweet Pea that are key to understanding the film - Sweet Pea is in control of everything that's happening, she needs to let go of the pain and the guilt (or "escape" and find her "freedom") and what she imagines can be as real as any pain. Each of the characters she goes into battle with represent aspects of her mind (Eg. Baby Doll represents her courage in facing her fears in the therapy).

I should add that recently when I brought up an e-book for criticism on a Yahoo group, it was pointed out that it was at least in large measure Catherine Faillor's book on liquid soap making, but with "bubble bath" substituted for "liquid soap".

I've just entered a 3-week training-assessment period to be a Guide for About.com . Of course I've encountered them as a content farm, but I wonder whether they're now trying to generate original content or not. I'm supposed to be an expert on biotechnology, producing several articles a month and being the moderator of a discussion group on the subject, as well as maintaining a newsletter on it. My fear is that training periods, which are unpaid but require submission of articles, and FAIK even the application writing sample, will be used to churn trainees to get their work for free without hiring them. Does anyone know any better about About.com?

Nope :) I'm just a college student studying media theory. I had read Jameson's critique of postmodernism and wanted to find a recent example. After reading this article a light bulb in my head lit up (finally). It really tied in with everything I had been reading and made things a lot clearer.

Now hold on just a minute. 1) I liked the first few books but disliked the middle of WoT. 2) I started WoT before I had read LotR, so I didn't recognize the first book as being a total ripoff. 3) I hated Sword of Truth, so that redeems me, amirite?
